Suh JI Suk says, “One-Way-Love is a very painful and difficult experience”.
Popularity in the MBC “Highkick3”
Nonetheless, Yoon Jisuk is quiet and does not say much when he is beside ‘Hasun’. He stands behind Hasun and absent-mindedly stares at her, and he has always been ready to make big or small sacrifices for Hasun.
Thus, Yoon Jisuk has received lots of loves from female TV viewers of the MBC sitcom “Highkick3” for his shy and affectionate pure love.
Recently, Suh Jisuk was interviewed with our reporter at MBC Production Center located at Goyang (고양 MBC제작센터). It was the next day of the broadcasting of Jisuk and Hasun’s kiss, which ended the tearful pure one-way pure love.
Suh Jisuk says, “It was very nice. I received more than 20 text messages of congratulations. I can’t be comfortable even though I just filmed the episode about dating Hasun after the first kiss. (laugh)”
Even though this is just acting, his mind has been suffering for the past 4 months by playing a man having one-way-love.
He says, “It is really difficult for a man having one-way-love. Yoon Jisuk’s heart suffers in profound mood. Every day, I live with tight heart by playing the role Yoon Jisuk. I have always felt that a brick wall has been in front of me.”
He says, “It seems to be more difficult that I can’t predict the storylines of the upcoming episodes. I really don’t know if Jisuk and Hasun will be together at the end. About one month ago, Hasun and Youngwook broke up, it was known that Hasun would not be able to keep rejecting Jisuk.”
However, Suh Ji Suk has not known that there would be a kiss scene until one week ago.
This is the first time that Suh Jisuk plays the hot-tempered PE Teacher Yoon Jisuk after he had played the roles including manager, the son of the rich businessman, and doctor.
He states, “In fact, I usually speak slowly with no laughing or crying voice. Thus, I need some time to adapt to this new role who speaks fast and loud. During the first script reading, I could not hold my head and sweat a lot because I could not grasp my role properly.”
Especially, those gestures and tones shown while Yoon Jisuk is shouting out loud really don’t match Suh Jisuk.
It has been 11 years since Suh Jisuk’s debut in KBS’s “Drama City” in 2001. He received attentions while performing in KBS’s daily drama “Pure 19”. However, the upward curve of his career stopped when he had to serve in the military. He resumed his career in SBS’s drama “OB & GYN” in February, 2010 after he completed the military service.
He states, “After I completed my military service, I was thankful for being given the role of “OB & GYN”. However, I was too nervous to even hold a spoon in a scene of eating a meal. Even then, I did not think that I was so nervous like a rookie actor.”
Starting from the supporting role of “OB & GYN”, Jisuk has not been able to take a break for performing in MBC weekend drama ‘GLORIA’, MBC ‘Sunday Night’, SBS ‘Kiss&Cry’, and tvN ‘Manny’. Now, he rises up in “Highkick3”.
Unlike Jisuk is currently very active to become an unlimited all-around artist in both dramas and TV entertainment programs, he had no interest in the entertainment world when he was 19 years old.
He says, “I got an opportunity of casting from an entertainment management agency when I worked as a valet parking personnel at the age of 19 years old. But, I rejected those opportunities for the first few times because I did not think about working in the entertainment field. However, I changed my mind when I saw Won Bin and Han Chae Young during my visit to the entertainment agency.” (laugh)
He says, “At that time, many people wondered why I attended TV station’s ‘Entertainment Awards Ceremony’ even though I was not a nominee. I attended the event because I would like to greet senior Lim Ha Ryung and he did greet me. Mr. Lim Ha Ryung indeed had been giving me lots of helps materially and mentally and I regard him as my father in my acting career.”
He says with a smile, “The acting career has changed my life and my way of thinking. In the past, my mother was very much marveled by my half leadership and not being able to sing a whole song.”
He says, “Still, sometimes I don’t even know why my confidence falls. Now, there is nothing I can do better than do my best in performance. I don’t have a big dream. All I would like to do is to work hard every day so that I can accomplish my little dream to buy a lovely house for my parents to enjoy their comfortable retirement life.”

Suh Ji Suk states, "I started on the stage ... My personality has been converted by performing roles."
After he set up the artists' basketball team 'Ati Basket (아띠바스켓)', he said to himself, "Next, I must perform an athlete role."
He says, "Now, sometimes I recall. I was truly hurt in the past because I was not able to express my feeling due to shyness. As a result, I could not fantasize on the stage. It is quite a reversal that I become such an actor. (laugh)"
There are parents trying to change their child actor's introvert personality in order to perform the extrovert role. In fact, this is the case of the way of practice for child actor.
For example, actor Suh Ji Suk (31) was born again for his acting career.
Recently, Suh Ji Suk and the reporter met in the "Highkick3" MBC filming site at ilsan, Goyang. He states that his personality has noticeably changed by his acting career.
He says, "I have never had laughing or crying sound since I grew up. I did not even try in the talent show in schools. I simply exercise quietly. (laugh) I was not sure what leadership was when I was a child. Therefore, I could not adapt to my speaking out loud character in 'Highkick3' in the beginning."
Being a 'Quiet Boy', all Suh Ji Suk's interest was in sports.
He says, "For my hobby of exercising, I don’t drink now. I unconditionally use exercising to get rid of my stress. Being a PE teacher was my dream. Although I did not become a teacher because I was not good at studying, I have been good at sports. (laugh)"
In June last year, Jisuk established the artists' basketball team named 'Ati Basket'. "Ati" means "Close Friends".
He says, "I call for and lead games. Members include actor Uhm Ki Joon, Han Jung Soo, Jo Dong Hyuk, Sejoon of ‘Yoorisanja’ etc. (엄기준, 한정수, 조동혁, 유리상자의 세준). Basketball athlete Yang Dong Geun (양동근), who is my close friend, is our coach. Our honor director is Choi Yin Sun (최인선) who was a former SK Basketball player. Our general affair manage is Shin Hye Yin (신혜인) who was a former female basketball player. Every Thursday, we will meet in an elementary school gym to play basketball games. Thanks to my acting career that changes me to be able to lead a basketball team, which I could not even imagine in the past." (laugh)
He says, “We plan to raise fund for future basketball games by offering on-site fundraising. Many artists gather in one significant day every week in order to socialize well.”
Suh Jisuk likes to exercise and he is gaining popularity by playing the hot-tempered PE teacher Yoon Jisuk in ‘Highkick3’. Since his debut in 2001, this is the first time he plays a hot-tempered character involving sports and he would like TV viewers to watch his new image.
He says, “I used to think that it would be nice to realize my dream by playing the role as a PE teacher involving sports in my next project. It was truly a good bet. (laugh) In fact, I would like to play the role of an athlete than just have action performance. Even though I don’t have enough physical flexibility to play the action role well, but I am confident if I am given the opportunity to play an athlete who has strong desire of competition.”
That was why he performed in KBS’s “Dream Team” and SBS’s “Kiss&Cry”.
He says, “I liked to perform in ‘Dream Team’ but I could only attend the filming of one episode due to my tight schedule. (laugh) On the contrary, I felt regrettable while performing in ‘Kiss&Cry’. I had misconception that I had enough time for ‘Kiss&Cry’, but I really only had little time for ‘Kiss&Cry’ while I was filming 2 projects ‘GLORIA’ and ‘Manny’. Thus, I truly did not have time to physically practice for the figure skating despite my aspiration. Although I sincerely would like to practice a lot, it was inevitable that I was eliminated early because I was not able to practice as a result. I regretted so much. I hope that I can be given one more opportunity for me to perform well.”
He talks about the chance given to him from an entertainment management agency started his acting career, “At that time, I knew that the acting career was not my career route because I did not know how to act as well as how to dance and sing. Thus, I let those acting proposals brought up by my management agency flowed away.”
“Of course, I feel embarrassed by my acting skills. Especially, my weakest acting is when I perform the scene of talking on the phone with no one talking at the other end of the phone. However, I would like to try my best. My personality was changed by my acting career as 11 years went by, and I would like to show nicer and better image as an actor in the future. Nothing would make me look good except my acting skills.”
He says, “In the past, someone’s comment such as ‘I don’t feel Suh Jisuk’s existing in this drama’ did annoy me. But now, I am just cautious about it. Now, my ultimate motive is to I show the cool side of my personality. I believe that I will receive good evaluation as long as I work hard every day.”
